Matt and I have been enjoying the Christmas spirit. This is our 2nd year celebrating Christmas being married. On December 1st I pulled out our advent Christmas book that Aly (Matt's sister) made us. Each day has a scripture about Christ, inspiring Christmas stories or poem and then a Christmas song. Last year, Matt wasn't so excited as I was trying to start the tradition of reading/singing everyday. We may have only done 5 out of the 25 days that year. This year when I pulled the book out he still grumbled, but once he started singing the Christmas song of the day, he couldn't stop and looked ahead and made us sing 5 more songs! Hope we didn't wake the missionaries (who live down below) while Matt was belting out the songs and making me laugh. His bah-humbug mood has changed since then, and on nights when my head has already hit the pillow and we haven't done our reading/singing, he wakes me up and I sleepily join him. He also had friends and our new next door neighbors join in the fun when we had them over for dinner. I think they enjoyed our tradition.
Another thing that has helped us get into the Christmas spirit is singing in the choir for our ward (church congregation) Christmas program. After hours of rehearsals we performed today, and the spirit was so strong. Our choir sang so beautifully. Matt and I were given solos for the song, "That Night in the Stable". I sang the first verse and Matt sang the second verse. I love singing with him. The whole program was very nice. I loved the narrated stories and the song selections that the choir director chose. We sang a few of the standard Christmas songs, but I enjoyed the ones I hadn't heard before like, "The Star of Bethlehem". It truly helped me appreciate the meaning of Christmas: Christ is our Savior.
Now, I'm making gingerbread cookies to give to friends and also some homemade bread. I love baking when the weather gets colder. It's so much fun, and it makes the house smell so good.
Just a few more gifts to buy and I'm done! Can't wait to enjoy Christmas with family in California as well as in Virginia!!
